Join the Larimer County Landfill team as our next Landfill Manager!

The Landfill Manager oversees daily landfill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant waste management practices. This position plans and coordinates activities such as waste placement, compaction, cover application, and site maintenance while supervising equipment operators and other personnel. The role ensures all operations are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, department standards, and internal policies

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with overtime as required.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Exercises direct supervision of equipment operators
  • Exercises oversight and compliance of suppliers and contractors.
  • Assigns, directs, and supervises activities of assigned staff ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards; administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, scheduling work hours, granting leave, appraising performance, disciplining, and submitting such records and reports as required by County policies and procedures.
  • Provides day-to-day direction, oversees policy and procedure standards, and resolves complex personnel and customer issues.
  • Coordinates staff schedules and equipment.
  • Provides training to staff, including regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Assists with preparing and managing the budget. Monitors expenditures and approves purchases and invoices; provides data and cost estimates to support budget development and tracking.
  • Identifies, corrects, and implements remedial action plans for compliance inspections of landfill operations.

What we're looking for:
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency in routine software and business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, databases, and virtual meeting/collaboration tools.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, external partners, and community members.
  • Demonstrated reliability, including regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Five (5) years of solid waste experience.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
