Engineering a world of possibilities

Mines club sport coaches promote the philosophy and objectives of the club sport and rec sport program and adhere to and enforce all departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the university. Colorado School of Mines Club Sports strives to engineer excellence in all we do. With 20 clubs and nearly 700 student athletes, the Club Sport program is as diverse as it is robust. Club Sports are perennial national contenders having produced several national champions as well as many regional and league championships. Club Sports provide excellent facilities and support including dedicated athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaching creating a welcoming environment for coaches to focus on coaching and instruction.

The Job

Coaches are responsible for creating and implementing practice plans and game plans as well as the skill development of each student athlete in the club. The coach will also help students develop a healthy competitive nature, teach and demonstrate ethical behavior and good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership skills. Clubs are first and foremost student organizations, thus the internal organization, management and decision making of the club must be left to the club officers, members, and club sport council. All coaches are considered a “Campus Security Authority” and are thus responsible and required to report any first-hand accounts or incidents of Mines student-involved harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or sexual violence.

The club sport season runs throughout the academic year (fall and spring semester). Practices generally occur during the week (late afternoon/early evening) with competitions occurring on weekends against local and regional colleges and universities.
