WHAT MAKES VOA SPECIAL VOAC recognizes the unique needs of the older adult who needs a wheelchair ramp to stay at home safely, and the preschooler whose family needs additional resources. VOAC supports veteran’s efforts to exit homelessness as well as provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence. Wherever VOAC goes, it combines relationship-building, volunteers and quality services to lift and support our neighbor’s efforts to become self-sufficient and reach their full potential.


- - The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for preparing, heating, and serving lunch and dinner meals—provided by the Volunteers of America Aging and Nutrition Services Center (ANS) kitchen—to participants of the Theodora Family Hotel program. All tasks must be performed in accordance with instructions provided, as well as the standards and procedures of Volunteers of America and the Health Department.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepares precooked meals from the ANS kitchen, ensuring they are heated to the proper serving temperature

- Plates and serves meals—lunch and dinner—for a high volume of individuals.

- Plates and serves meals with a focus on high quality, ensuring excellent presentation and participant satisfaction.

- Ensures program participants have a voice and, when appropriate, are given the opportunity to provide feedback.

- Serves guests respectfully, using a Trauma-Informed Approach.

- Portions foods according to number of meals needed, minimizing waste and leftover items.

- Follow portion guidelines from the Colorado Food Program using the VOA menu a guide.

- Using menu plans, requisitions product and supplies to ensure accuracy and efficient workflow.

- Maintains a safe, clean work area and strictly follows proper sanitation policies.

- Ensures product safety always employing proper temperature controls.

- Uses and maintains kitchen equipment in a clean, safe, and appropriate manner.

- Chills, labels and properly stores any unused product or leftovers.

- Prepares special event meals and requested items as directed by Food Service Project Manager.

- Track and input meals served/offered into the meal tracking systems.

- Orders food and kitchen supplies weekly from the VOA kitchen.

- Attends all meetings and Agency trainings as required.

- Direct, train, or assist other kitchen employees, temporary workers, or volunteers as assigned.

- Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics.

- Predictable, consistent attendance.

- Performs all other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

- Occasional program volunteers

- Occasional temporary laborers in the absence of a Food Service Manager or Associate Director


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

- Frequent exposure to heat, cold, steam and fumes, including walk-in refrigeration and freezers.

- Uses knives, utensils, and commercial cooking equipment throughout shift.

- Stand, pivot, and walk on hard surface majority of shift.

- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.

- Occasional exposure to chemicals and cleaning solvents.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

- Full time, Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM

- Designated holidays and special events


Pay range: $19.29 - $20.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications of Position

- One year related experience in cooking or similar production facility.

- Ability to read and write, following standardized recipes and production sheets.

- Ability to perform basic kitchen mathematical calculations.

- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. repeatedly during a daily shift.

- Servsafe certified or ability to acquire food safety certification within 3 months of hire.


Preferred Qualifications of Position

- At least one year high volume institutional cooking experience.


Knowledge and Skills

- Clearly and respectfully communicates with Agency staff, volunteers, clients, and vendors.

- Solid time management and organizational skills.
