Description / Position Overview

About the Job: Implement and support the various systems used in the Public Safety Communications Center to include emergency notifications, scheduling and staffing, technology hardware maintenance and refresh, etc. In addition, this role will serve as a backup computer aided dispatch (CAD) administrator and audio specialist to assist in maintaining the respective software.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As an Application Support Admin II in the Communications Center, you will:

  • Support existing software solutions:
    1. Emergency Notifications System
    2. Scheduling and Staffing
    3. City computer hardware maintenance
  • Support the CAD Administrator with installation, configuration, testing, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist the Audio specialist in retrieving and delivering audio during specialist’s absence.
  • Provides application security, user setup, role privilege definitions and assignments, and security permissions.
  • Assists with the installation and/or upgrade of software patches and releases. Provides user support and coordinates scheduled downtime and upgrades with user community.
  • Reads technical manuals, confers with users, or conducts computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Liaise with technological partners (e.g., CSPD App Support, CSFD Technology Team, City IT, 911 Authority IT, 911 Authority GIS).
  • Deploy new software; ensure configured solution meets business requirements and use cases and is sustainable; migrate from existing application to replacement application; and plan and execute integration and acceptance testing. Recommends or makes decisions to allocate and schedule deployment project activities related to software.
  • May analyze and document software and system requirements to be included in the selections, implementations, and production of software solutions and upgrades; may research potential software solutions to determine fit with business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, and server integration issues. Familiarity with XML files, server configurations, and security best practices.
  • Analytical & Organizational Skills: Ability to analyze complex business processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to approach challenges methodically, troubleshoot issues independently, and escalate when necessary.
  • Public Safety Application Knowledge: Understanding of public safety technologies and experience with their configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Training & Documentation: Ability to create clear and concise training materials and application documentation for internal users and partners.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study, preferably with major coursework in computer science or information management.
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field, preferably as a as a business analyst or in application support.
  • Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire the CompTIA Security Certification
Education and Experience Equivalency: One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of required education (OR) one year of academic coursework directly related to this position beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for one year of required professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Rocket RedHat and/or Linux systems.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year, and any furloughs subsequently approved.
