Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Grounds Technician II. The Grounds Technician II performs a variety of skilled duties. Training and monitoring hourly employees and community service workers on improvement projects requiring independent judgement and knowledge of department operations, in the development and maintenance of parks or building grounds. Mowing, string trimming, pruning of trees and edging, etc., of facilities managed by Building Services.
This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm. This position will work out of various locations throughout Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $52,008.00 - $62,046.00 Annually

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Assist in designs and monitors maintenance and improvement projects on properties administered by the Building Services Department Plans, organizes, assigns and reviews work of inmate crews in accordance with established goals, objectives and authorized work plan Assists in developing the annual work plans Coordinates landscape maintenance projects Performs snow removal and building maintenance as needed Performs skilled duties in the operation of hand tools, power tools and equipment Performs repairs and preventive maintenance to grounds and snow removal equipment - Performs related work, as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:
- High school graduation or equivalent
AND
2 (two) years of parks or building and grounds maintenance experience
Additional related education may count towards required experience.

- Thorough knowledge of the use of materials, equipment and procedures necessary for landscape and building maintenance
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to landscape and building maintenance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Back and Upper Body:
- Occasionally mows with self-propelled 135 or 175 lb. power mower or cut weeds with 15 lb. power weed whacker (supported with harness), moving from side to side
- Occasionally shovels dirt and gravel and digs holes for posts using clam digger and or 19 lb. digging bar
- Occasionally lifts 43 lb. T-port driver (two-person lift with handles) shoulder height to drive metal fence posts
- Occasionally lifts (two-person lift) eighty-pound cement bags and carries to work site
- Occasionally lifts and positions with assistance ramps to allow tractor loading and unloading from trailer
- Occasionally lifts and operates two-handed 60 lb. jackhammer to break rock
- Occasionally picks up and removes trash
- Must lift 40 lb. trash bag from ground level to truck bed height of 42 inches (could be two-person lift)
- Hands and Arms:
- Occasionally operates 2-3 lb. hand pruners held overhead
- Occasionally operates 15 lb. chain saw with two hands
- Requires fine motor dexterity to adjust and maintain power equipment
- Body Movement:
- Frequently must walk over uneven rough terrain either pushing, pulling, or carrying equipment
- Requires agility to maneuver over limbs, branches, creeks, boulders, etc.
- Frequently requires ability to sit and drive tractor with mulcher while looking back
- Occasionally kneels on angled surfaces to plant flowers and do other work on the ground
