This Opportunity

WSP has a career opportunity for an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator/Site Manager for the Captain Jack Mine Superfund Site in Boulder, CO. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facilities to meet goals and to ensure efficiency and timeliness of work. Also, to ensure that site activities are comply with laws, policies and regulations and provide technical support and information to site staff within scope of experience.

Your Impact

  • Supervision & Oversight
    • Supervise assigned site staff; meet regularly with site staff to resolve workload and technical issues; prioritize and assign tasks and projects
    • Monitor site staff work and safety performance and provide instruction on work/ safety performance improvement, as needed
    • Oversee and audit the operations and maintenance staff as they perform their rounds monitoring the process equipment throughout the WTF
    • Ensure staff adhere to policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
    • Assist with recruitment of replacement staff if/when staff vacancies occur
  • Inspection & Reporting
    • Inspect plant processes and equipment, analyze instrument readings and laboratory data
    • Review and edit daily operations staff notes for accuracy and trend data to provide input into plant process improvement
    • Prepare monthly reports for review by Project Manager
  • Health, Safety Security and Environment
    • Ensure site staff operate and maintain all equipment in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices and applicable federal programs such as OSHA
    • Ensure operations staff operate treatment equipment in accordance with discharge permits or other regulatory requirements
    • Ensure maintenance staff perform preventive and corrective maintenance in a safe, controlled and timely fashion to maximize WTP online availability
    • Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, incidents, Fatal Risk Controls, and pSIFs to project management and safety personnel
  • Team Work & Collaboration
    • Assist WSP project management with training and evaluating staff
    • Assist safety resource personnel with ensuring OSHA compliance and safe practices are being followed by staff
    • Assist maintenance staff with the preventive maintenance program as needed; ensure equipment needing repair remains isolated until repaired
    • Participate in decisions on plant process operation
    • Direct maintenance staff for ordering and maintaining parts and supply inventories; assist operations staff with ordering process and laboratory chemicals and supplies
    • Lead site meetings and handoff meetings
    • Development of strong diverse teams to meet project objectives
  • Adherence to timelines of client and WSP strategic project objectives
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 11 years of operations and maintenance (O&M) work at wastewater treatment plants or similar facilities
  • Two additional years of experience supervising (O&M) staff at wastewater treatment plants or similar facilities
  • Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate
  • Colorado Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification class “B” or higher.
  • Excellent client relationship and communication skills and ability to manage day to day Client and WSP tactical objectives
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher with emphasis on business management, cost accounting, safety systems or human resources
  • Experience with extensive programmatic health, safety, security and environment and operational excellence systems

Compensation:

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $42.12 - $64.04


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
