PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience.

The hiring range for this role is $64,000- $ 80,000 annually.

The City Council Aide provides highly specialized support, project coordination, budget maintenance, and program management to the City of Aurora City Council members. This role acts as a liaison between community constituents and City Council and researches and provides resolutions to constituent issues and complaints. This role analyzes and reports on policies, project status, and City Council goals.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches, supports, and resolves constituent inquiries and complaints
  • Identifies, researches, and recommends solutions to community problems and policy issues
  • Assists in collecting and analyzing data from the community and providing recommendations to City Council
  • Analyzes and reports on progress of City Council goals/projects and identifies areas for efficiencies
  • Attends meetings, events, and town halls with or on behalf of City Council
  • Manages City Council members schedules including meetings, events, and travel
  • Manages day-to-day administrative tasks including responding to emails, reserving meeting spaces, and developing meeting agendas
  • Records and maintains records and logs detailing City Council actions, policies, and meeting information
  • Develops and distributes communications for City Council both internally and externally
  • Assists in establishing, maintaining, and tracking budgets and expenses
  • Plans, coordinates, and manages special projects as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Communications, Political Science, or a related field

Experience:

  • Two years of professional experience including customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in government administration
  • Experience working with budgets
  • Project Management experience
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish

Licenses and Certifications:

  • None

Knowledge:

  • General office equipment, including personal computers with related software applications
  • Composition, grammar, letter, and correspondence formatting
  • Budgeting procedures
  • Business English, spelling, and math

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving, analytical, and managerial skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); scheduling appointments/updating calendars

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Light physical work requiring the ability to lift up to 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds with or without assistance
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects, walking, and standing
  • Vision for reading and interpreting reports and other written materials
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard and office equipment
  • Clear speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with department personnel and citizens

Work Environment:

  • Works in a clean, comfortable environment
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required

Equipment Used:

  • Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, copy/fax machines, and postal equipment

This role may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
